Final Environment

After two years I've finally completed all visual aspects of my thesis. I created a loft space for my last environment. I was inspired primarily by two sources: Blade Runner and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I played around with lighting quite a bit in this one. I wanted to create something colorful but dark and moody.

Third Environment Props

I've gathered several props together that I've made over the last few semesters so I can populate my final scene. There are not a whole lot of em but I will be able to duplicate and distribute them to add some lived in feel to the final scene for my two mercenary type characters.

Second Environment Finished

Well that didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would. I created a simple 19th century European tunnel/alley model to house my Butcher and Eater characters, applied the materials, and added lighting and atmospheric effects. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Once I'm finished with the next environment this long process will be over.

Second Environment Materials

Since my second environment wont be utilizing very many props I wanted to focus on making some simple yet attractive materials in UE4.

The most detailed one is a relatively simple cobblestone material that I've modified to utilize vertex painting allowing me to "paint" water gathered between the stones to add a bunch more flavor to the material.

1st Environment

Pretty happy with the way it turned out. Just gotta play with some environmental effects and lighting to my liking, but aside from that I'm about done.

1st Environment Progress

I've made some good progress on the environment. I created an obelisk and decided to create a second one that's been knocked over to add a little asymmetry to the scene.

Goatman Finished and UE4

I've finished my Goatman and his weapon and submitted everything to the Spring Show. Pretty happy with how everything turned out.

Next, I need to begin creating the small environments for my characters. Initially I was going to be using UDK, but after GDC I've decided to upgrade to Unreal Engine 4. The upgraded material editors ability to utilize PBR will help to unify the look my characters have in Marmoset 2.

Goatman Textured

Finished the textures for the goatman and have him set up in Marmoset 2. Next up I need to model and texture his weapon. It shouldn't take too long and once I'm finished I can submit everything to the Spring Show.

PBR

After getting some good info from instructors on Physically Based Rendering techniques I thought it would be a good idea to display my characters in Marmoset 2 for my thesis. I've spent the last couple weeks while working on my Goatman adjusting textures on my other characters and posing them so I can use Marmoset 2's PBR abilities. They turned out great and it was probably one of the best choices I've made for my thesis.

Initial Texture

After adding new details to the armor and the wonderful process of retopo and unfolding the UVs, I made a quick color pass on the Goatman. I also made a first texture pass on the head.

Goatman_Armor

Got the armor all sculpted on the Goatman. After some feedback I'll be adding some embossed details on the armor as well.
